Safety E-QuickTips is a weekly email designed to help Employers and Employees start their week with a short thought about safety in the workplace.
Who Is Responsible...
This is the time of year where many of us take a look at where we are in our lives and then see what we can do to make them better in the New Year. I know this because the day after Christmas when I turned on the TV I saw my first commercial that told me I could lose up to 10 pounds in just 4 weeks.
Then in the next commercial, I saw how I could burn more calories with a specific piece of fitness equipment than any other machine on the market.
Ok, now that I think about it, maybe this IS the time of year when we realize how much we have eaten over the holidays and are looking for a way to lose a few unwanted pounds.
But for those of you who might be thinking about a little more than losing a few unwanted pounds, my hope is that you will take a moment to really think about workplace safety and the value it brings to everyone in your organization…
-How every employee benefits by going home at the end of each day in the same condition they came to work.
-How the company benefits from a good safety record that helps them maintain a solid reputation in their community and with those they work for.
And let’s not forget about the profits the company gets to keep because they are not eaten up by the cost associated with accidents. These are necessary to build a better and stronger company for the future.
If you are in management, I hope you will take a moment every workday to remind everyone you work with, that their safety is more important to you than saving a buck or two. If you do that, the buck or two that you think it is costing you will come back to you 3 to 6 times more.
If you are an employee, I hope you let those working alongside you, who are working in an unsafe way, know that their safety is important to you and that it’s just not worth it to take that chance, because this time it might not work out in their favor.
So from all of us at US Compliance Systems, we wish you and your families a Safe and Happy New Year!
