Keep It Simple -- Keep Them Safe

Over the years I’ve come to understand that most of us safety consultants overcomplicate workplace safety – and in the process most employers are overwhelmed.

So, what do they do? Nothing.

But the simple fact is, workplace safety doesn’t have to be difficult and overwhelming to prevent workplace accidents.

In fact, even OSHA, who almost always finds a way to overwhelm employers with a lot of words, has established 4 simple but effective steps that, if followed, will both protect employees from workplace hazards and protect employers from costly OSHA citations.

For many of you who have read Safety E-QuickTips over the years, I’m sure you will find these familiar. For those of you who have just recently signed up, I believe you will find these surprisingly simple.

So, here they are.

To meet OSHA’s requirements, your company must:

1. Establish safety policies and procedures

2. Effectively communicate your policies and procedures on safety (provide training)

3. Perform regular and frequent worksite safety inspections

4. Enforce safety with your employees

These steps don’t seem too complicated, do they?

They are short and straight to the point with little room for misinterpretation.

But that is what real workplace safety is all about.Keep it simple – keep them safe.

In the next couple of weeks, I’ll provide you some ideas on how to implement these 4 steps in your workplace, so you can protect your employees from workplac hazards and your company from costly OSHA citations.

And remember, Keep It Simple - Keep Them Safe.
