Safety E-QuickTips is a weekly email designed to help Employers and Employees start their week with a short thought about safety in the workplace.

Everyone Wins When it Comes to Workplace Safety

For the last 4 weeks, we’ve been discussing how to protect your most valuable assets: employees, company reputation and profits by following the following 4 steps.

1.Establish company safety policies and procedures

2.Effectively communicate the policies and procedures to your employees

3.Perform regular and frequent jobsite safety inspections

4.Employ consistent enforcement procedures

Hopefully you’ve had a chance to review all 4 steps, but if by chance you’ve missed one, you can find them on our website at Safety E-QuickTips Archive Page.

There is no question in my mind that if you follow these 4 basic steps when implementing your company safety program, it will be a win/win for both employees and the company.

So, my question to you today is – why haven’t you gotten started?

If you are thinking that you’ll wait until you have time to sit down and put together a plan, think again. The odds that most of you will ever find the time with your busy schedules to sit down and make that happen is slim to none.

So, let me make this easy for you.

The plan is in place, just 4 simple steps and you can make them happen in the next 4 weeks without spending a lot of your valuable time.

Week 1

Put together a company safety program that contains your company policies and procedures on safety. With everything available today on the internet this shouldn’t take more than about an hour to make happen.

There are free resources online and companies like ours that will provide you immediate access to safety programs allowing you to quickly and easily set up your policies and procedures.

Week 2

Start communicating your company safety policies and procedures to your employees.

You can begin with simple 5-10-minute safety meetings once a week and then work your way up to more formal training along the way.

Again, the internet is full of free safety information to include in your meetings and there are plenty of options for purchasing information and online training. So take a few minutes and check them out.

Week 3

Start performing regular and frequent jobsite inspections.

If you need to start with baby steps, perform an inspection on each jobsite at least once per month.Once you get used to the process increase the frequency and as time goes on you can concentrate your efforts on jobsites that continue to have safety issues.

And one more time, you can find free inspection forms online that will cover just about any industry you are in.If you are working with a safety company they will probably be able to help you out.

Week 4

Enforce safety with your employees.

You could start your enforcement program with the understanding that for the 1st month no one will be held accountable if they are found violating company safety policies and procedures, so they have a little time to get used to the program.

Many employers struggle with this one, but you should always keep in mind that enforcement of your policies and procedures holds employees accountable. With accountability you will find that your employees will work safer, reducing workplace accidents.

So, why not get started this week?Remember everyone wins when it comes to workplace safety.
