Remember - It's Winter

For most of the country this is the worst time of year for slips, trips and falls.

Why is that?

Well, if you haven’t already figured it out, it’s because of the cold, wet and icy conditions that turn those walking/working surfaces into a slip and slide.

When you are young, running and sliding on ice with your shoes is fun.Not so much as you get older, especially when you’re not expecting it.

Because when you hit the ground or twist your back as you try to catch yourself, you can be left with weeks, months or even years of pain and suffering.

So if you’re not interested in experiencing any pain and suffering from ice this year, here are a few things you can do to help prevent those slips, trips and falls.

  • Keep work areas free of snow and ice buildup; use salt or ice melting products when possible
  • Wear slip-resistant footwear or boots
  • Watch out for black-ice – It’s called black-ice for a reason
  • Be careful when getting out of vehicles
  • Avoid carrying items and never carry anything that prevents you from having a clear view of where you are walking
  • Never work on icy elevated work platforms

The list could go on, but the simple fact is you need to use extreme caution when working in and around icy conditions.

And for all of you who work in parts of the country where you don’t get to experience all the joy of icy working surfaces, slips, trips and falls are still something you need to watch out for.

Be careful out there. Remember – It’s Winter.
