Now Think About How it Could Have Turned Out

Last fall my wife mentioned that she saw our neighbor doing a little selective pruning on their very large oak tree. The pruning was taking place from on top his roof.

Our neighbor has a man that does some handy work around their house and on that day he was standing on the roof with a 12-15’ tree pruner, just tugging away trying to cut a branch that was about 6’ away from the house.

As he tugged at the rope trying to make the cut, she would see the branch pulling back as he braced himself from being pulled off the roof.

Did I mention he was standing on a slanted roof just 2 or 3 feet from the edge?

He eventually was able to cut through the branch without pulling himself off the roof, but there were a few times that . . . well, let’s just leave it at that.

My reason for leading off with this story is that sometimes we just need to use a little common sense when it comes to safety.

I’m sure that if anyone else saw what was going on that day on top of the roof they would have been shaking their head in disbelief.

What was he thinking?

This was a story that ended without an incident, but more often than we would like to think these type of situations end with a visit to the emergency or even worse.

Now I would like everyone reading this Safety E-QuickTip to take a moment and think about that one time where you failed to use common sense and put yourself in a situation where you could have been seriously injured, but you got away with it.

Now think about how it could have turned out.
